While early spring and late fall are often cool and wet, late spring and summer
bring heat and humidity to the southern Appalachians. Daytime temperatures
average 58F in March, 69F in April, 77F in May, 81F in June, 84F in July and
August, 78F in September, and 69F in October

Location: about 100 miles northwest of Boston
Boats: Kayaks, paddle rafts
Rapids: Lower section Class I and II; upper section Class III and IV.
Clear, cold water warms up to the 60s in summer
Lodging: Although campsites abound in nearby Jamaica State Park,
youˇ¦ll need to call in January to reserve a site for one of the rafting
weekends. Also B&Bs, inns, and motels in Brattleboro, Londonderry, South
Londonderry, and Putney.
