How to Get to:
Passing under and not across a reproduction of the Golden Gate
Bridge guests are then deposited in the central hub. This central hub area is
called Sunshine Plaza. The remainder of the park is a nondescript collection of
three districts.
The entrance to this theme park is located directly across from it's
sister park Disneyland. Both parks find themselves competing for guests that
are arriving into the pedestrian plaza that separates them. This plaza which
called the Esplanade is where guests will disembark from the trams that shuttle
guests to and from the parking garages. This is also where guests will find the
tickets booths and a set of huge letters spelling out California, which serves
as the entrance. After passing through the turnstiles guests will find most of
guest services including stroller rentals, lockers, ATM machines and some
souvenir shops.

theming. This ride a long time favorite which gives guests a little over 5
minutes with more soaking per minute than possibly any other river rapid ride
around. So plan to get if not soaked at least very, very wet.
- Redwood Creek Challenge Trail: Take the time to explore this getaway
especially if you have school age children. There is a fair amount of walking
first up and then down over some not so even pathways as guests move through
this walking tour.
Paradise Pier
This rather large district situated along one edge of the lake is home to
roughly half the attractions. Nicely themed to represent a by gone era of turn
of the century amusement park. But guest beware this is no Disneyland.
Imaginneers took a break when it came to the attractions and imported a variety
of less the state of art Ferris wheel and other assorted midway type rides.
- California Screamin: Imagineers have given guests a thrill coaster of the
first order. Theming however does give way to a 0-55mph start followed by dips,
turns, loops and a 110 foot hill. If you thought your ride partner was brave
and did not scream you probably just did not hear them over the piped in
soundtrack.
- Golden Zephyr: Open Seating on this Rocket ship ride that spins around and
outward from the central hub its point of take off. This like most cycle
"everybody off, everybody on" carnival rides is slow loading and often not
worth the wait.
- Jumpin Jellyfish: After being raised by cable to the top guests are then
released to float make to earth by parachute. Here again the wait may not be
worth the less than a minute or less of thrill. Go early to avoid the wait.
* Minimum height requirement 40"
- King Triton's Carrousel: When is a merry-go-round more than just a
merry-go-round. When you ride aboard elaborately painted dolphins, sea horses
and other sea creatures. A delight to the senses, especially at night.
- Mailboomer: Nicely themed launch and free ride. Three towers launch guests up
at a modest acceleration with a not exactly free fall back to earth. Mild by
most standards but still enough nervous laughter to go around at least for
first timers. Slow loading and unloading can make for long waits, so hit this
one early.
* Minimum height requirement 52"
- Mulholland Madness: A carnival styled mouse ride themed loosely to simulate a
wild spin on one of California's highways. Enough to make it worth a shot but
nothing you haven't seen back home.
* Minimum height requirement 42"
- Orange Stinger: Flying swings decorated to look like bees rotate around a
central hub.
* Minimum height requirement 48"
- Sun Wheel: This enormous and beautiful Ferris wheel tops out at 150?at its
crest. Truly breathtaking and quietly possibly worth the excruciatingly long
wait at peak times.
- S.S. Rustworthy: Kids are automatically drawn to this interactive fountain
and playground featuring a sunken boat surrounded by various sea creatures.
They can be seen and heard running from one squirting water fountain to the
next laughing, playing and, oh yes, getting wet. Great break on hot days so
either strip the young ones down to the bare minimum or plan ahead and bring a
bathing suit and towel.
