Situated on the beautiful,
mountain-ringed coast of Kachemak Bay, Homer attracts increasing
numbers of visitors for camping, boating, sightseeing, and
sportfishing. Many of Alaska's artists live here, attracted by the
spectacular marine and mountain views. The Pratt Museum features
marine and historical exhibits.
Homer lies at the end of the
Sterling Highway, about 225 road miles from Anchorage. Kachemak Bay
carves a 40-mile-long indentation in the southwestern edge of the
Kenai Peninsula, and it is one of the most scenic bodies of water in
the state. The bay's mild climate attracts visitors year-round.
Glaciers from Harding Icefield descend toward the bay, providing a
locale for winter sports all year.
