Cherry Boom

Name: Cherry Boom
Cherry Boom is an all girl punk rock band with great talents at song writing. Seeing an all-girl band is rare enough but seeing one singing in Chinese is an even bigger rarity.
The group consists of the lead singer Cha-cha, guitarist Gua, drummer Da-tian and bassist Xiao-qian, as students of Fu Jen Catholic University (Jolin Tsai and Faye of F.I.R. are also alumni of the said school). They actually play their own instruments and wrote the majority of the songs on their first album and all the songs in their sophomore and latest album. They have interesting lyrics and catchy riffs.

They were all friends at the same university back in 2003. They decided to form a band and often went to a popular practice facility to practice. A producer who happened to be at the practice facility only three months after the girls formed the band discovered their creativity and skills. This producer was immediately impressed and eventually got all the girls to go through more professional training. They practiced and practiced and eventually started making the rounds in local pubs and other small venues. They made quite a name for themselves in the underground punk scene in Taipei and attracted some stars to their shows. Chang Chen-yueh decided to take them on his tour and let the girls open for him. This let the band quickly gain popularity amongst the college and high school scene. After the success of their campus performances, they officially signed a record contract and released their first album in July 2006.
Cha-cha has a crisp, young, spirited voice (pretty smooth and fitting for their songs) with tons of energy and a lot of attitude. Her voice basically grabs you. Her sweet, powerful, emotion-filled voice juxtaposed with heavy rock is a perfect fit. She is able to play guitar, and sing & play guitar at the same time.
