Palm OS Applications Extend Far Beyond Calendaring

Many Palm OS users add additional software beyond the traditional calendaring and personal information management (PIM) applications to help them manage their business and personal lives. Much of this software is created to meet the needs of a particular industry or special interest.

Palm OS applications developers consider best for various interests, professions and tasks. Examples of practical uses of Palm Powered smart mobile devices include:

A member of the Civil Air Patrol helps a lost pilot by looking up an airport location and radio frequency on a Palm Powered handheld;

A medical student carries a library of medical reference material and textbooks on his Palm Powered device, and looks up proper drug dosing on the go;

A traveler uses a Palm Powered device to post pictures and text to a website while on the road, so family and friends can see what she's up to; and

A Boy Scout troop leader manages the troop with a Palm Powered handheld, using troop tracking software, first aid reference programs and even knot tying guides written specifically for Palm OS.

I use Palm Tungsten to keep track of all that is going on in maintaining religious support for 8293 soldiers and 9 chaplains and chaplain assistants in the Regiment.

My Palm slips into the pocket of my BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) and I use Documents To Go by DataViz to download sermons for field services, and spreadsheets to track all the attendance at the services. I also use Natara's Day Notes to keep a historical record (Daily Duty Log) of what is going on in the area. I've even used the note feature built into Palm as a flashlight when we were out in the middle of a convoy with tracer rounds going over our heads. I cannot imagine being without my Palm Tungsten."

I am able to pull out my VEO camera and plug it in to the expansion slot and take pictures of the house to show to customers.
