Samsung SPH-i330 supports Palm OS, 1xRTT
By William | Reporter Date: 03/14/2003
Following up on its first wireless handheld, Samsung is taking to
market the SPH-i330, a device with integrated CDMA2000 1xRTT
capabilities sporting 16 MB RAM and running Palm OS.
When Samsung first made its entrance into the wireless handheld
market with the SPH-i300, few thought the device would survive - but
as the only major player in this particular niche in addition to
Kyocera, Samsung stayed put and is now bringing out its second
wireless handheld based on Palm OS, the SPH-i330.

Samsung's new SPH-i330 is the most advanced wireless Palm OS
handheld to date. Similar to its predecessor, Samsung's i330
combines wireless phone capabilities with the Palm OS platform - but
looks and specifications have changed. In a more slender case,
Samsung has fitted a 66 MHz Motorola Dragonball processor, 8-bit TFT
color display with a resolution of 160 x 240 pixels and 16 MB RAM.
Also new is the integrated support for CDMA2000 1xRTT networks,
allowing for data transfer speeds of up to 144 Kbps where the i300
only supported standard CDMA data calls with speeds of up to 14.4
Kbps.
On the software side, the i330 comes equipped with the Blazer proxy
browser, which allows users to view any HTML website as rendering
and adaptation are carried out on proxy servers and not directly on
the device. Other features include voice-activated dialing,
voice-memo, speed-dialing and call logs, and in addition to a
categorized phonebook, permitting several phone entries for one
contact, the i330 also offers speakerphone capabilities with the
option to mute conversations during calls.
Optional accessories to the phone include a camera attachment, not
commented on further by Samsung, a flexible keyboard attachment and
various charger and battery alternatives, as well a handsfree set
and a car kit.
The SPH-i330 weighs in at 5.82 ounces (165 g), with measurements
reading 4.92" x 2.36" x 0.71" (12.5 x 6.5 x 1.8 cm).
It costs USD499.
