How to listen to music and watch videos
By Little Sun | Editor-in-chief

Microsoft Windows Media Player Mobile is software that lets you play music and videos on your Windows Mobile device.

Here's how to do it:

Note: Most of this how-to is devoted to Media Player 10 Mobile, which is found on Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6 devices and a couple pre-Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PCs. A short tip on the earlier version of Media Player Mobile is found at the end of this how-to. By default, Windows Media Player 10 Mobile can play Windows Media Video (.WMV), Windows Media Audio (.WMA), and MP3 music files. This includes files with the following extensions: .ASF, .WMA, .WMV, and .MP3. Once you've copied the media files to the My Documents folder, follow these steps:

Playing media content on your device

1. Go to Start >Windows Media; select Menu >Library if Media Player doesn't open in the Library screen.

2. Select a Library category (e.g., My Music, My Videos, My Playlists, etc.) and a sub-category, and select Play in the lower left of the screen. Media Player will open and play all the media in that sub-category. If you want to play an individual song in the sub-category, scroll down to it and select Play.

3. To play a file stored on your device that is not listed in the Library, go to the Library screen and select Menu >Open File. This displays the file folders on your device. Locate the media file you want, tap and hold it, and select Play or Queue Up from the pop-up menu. (Non-touch screen smartphones: Select the item you want to play and then select Menu >Queue Up.)

4. Touch screen devices only: If you have media content saved to a storage card, it may be necessary to specify this. From the Library screen, tap the small down arrow at the top of the screen to the right of the word "Library" and select storage card from the drop-down list.

Updating a library

When you copy a media file to your device, Media Player should automatically update the library list. If it does not, go to the Library screen and select Menu >Update Library. Wait for the files to be added, and then select Done.

Deleting an item from a library

Go to the Library screen and find the song you want to delete in one of the Library folders. Highlight it and then select Menu >Delete from Library. This removes the item from the Library list, and gives you the option to delete the music or video file from your device
